Family Swim Pool Rules

  • Patrons can only enter the water when a lifeguard is on duty.
  • Any flotation device must be U.S. Coast Guard Approved! Lifeguards can provide a limited number of lifejackets. No inflatable toys, water wings, baby carriers, mats, or loungers.
  • Family Swim will be held in the instructional pool and a predesignated area of the competition pool.
  • Children, who are not toilet trained, MUST wear NON-DISPOSABLE swim diapers. No exceptions!
  • Children under 6 years old MUST be with an adult (18yrs or older) and the adult MUST always be within an arm’s reach of the child.
  • The adult to child ratio allowed is 1:2 under 6 years old and 1:4 over 6 years old.
  • No deck changing; everyone must change (clothes and diapers) in the restrooms.
  • No diving in the instructional pool. Diving is allowed in the competition pool and all entries must be facing forward. No flips.
  • Please swim under lane lines, no sitting or lying on lane lines.
  • No climbing on or under the bleachers and no hanging on the hand railings or ladders.
  • Extended underwater breath holding is not allowed due to the dangers of underwater blackouts.
  • No roughhousing, chicken fighting, or horseplay.
  • Please wear proper swimming attire. No cotton clothing or street clothes.
  • Children must pass a swim test to swim in the deep end of the instructional pool and the competition pool.
  • Lifeguards have the final say on the pool rules. Failure to comply with the facility rules may result in you being asked to leave the facility.

Swim Test
  • Swim 12 yds of freestyle or front crawl and 12 yds of backstroke or elementary backstroke. Tread water for 30 seconds without touching the wall, lane line, or bottom of the pool. Swimming must be at a competent level. Children cannot attempt this test with a lifejacket on.
  • Failure to complete any portion of the swim test will result in being unable to swim in the deep end of the instructional pool and the competition pool. Children are allowed to retry the swim test up to two times per visit.
  • At any point, a lifeguard can revoke privileges to swim in the deep end due to a decline in swimming ability, and/or poor behavior.
  • A specific-colored wristband will be given to children who passed this test. Individuals who show above average abilities to pass this swim test can be put on a pre-approved swim test list.

Additional Information

Hours of Operation- Family swim will begin June 17 and end August 31. Hours will occur, generally, Monday - Friday, 1pm- 3pm, and Saturdays 12pm- 2pm. Due to contracted events, the BBMAC may close to the public. Please refer to the website for the most up to date calendar. Family swim will ONLY occur during designated Family Swim hours, any other time Family Swim is prohibited! Our number one goal is to provide a safe place for everyone to enjoy the pool.

Cost - $5 per person, for the day or we have available a Summer Special Punch Pass of 10 swims for $40. Everyone who enters the water must pay. Family swim patrons will be given wristbands to indicate that they have paid, have passed the deep end swim test, and/or if they are under 6 years old. The Summer Special Punch Pass can be shared by the entire family, but a punch is per individual NOT per family.

If capacity is reached for Family Swim at any point in the day, we will stop entrance into Family Swim and begin a waitlist. If enough swimmers exit the facility, we will resume entrance.

If a fecal or vomiting incident occurs in the pool, we will need to close the effected pool. The pool will be closed for at least 30 minutes to 24 hours depending on the incident.

Helpful tips for a great time at the BBMAC!

  • Before entering the pool, please rinse off in a hot shower. This helps keep the pool clean.
  • Sunscreen is recommended to be put on 15 minutes before entering the water. Sunscreen typically lasts 80 minutes.
  • It is important to take breaks. During these breaks, please remember to reapply sunscreen, have a snack, get water, and use the restroom. Restroom breaks help prevent fecal accidents in the pool.
  • When wearing a lifejacket, it should fit snug. If the lifejacket floats up to a child’s ears in the water, it is not a proper fitting, and they may need a smaller jacket.
  • Designate a water watcher! Even though the BBMAC is staffed with lifeguards, it is important that kids still have adult supervision. The more eyes, the better!
