Group Dining in San Diego

September 24, 2015

Coronado and neighboring San Diego could be described as a food mecca. They offer countless different varieties and food ethnicities to enjoy. Since we know that you brought a few swimmers with you, below are three downtown San Diego restaurants that enjoy hosting groups. For group dining on the island, check our Coronado Group Dining article.

Depending on the size your group, we recommend calling in advance to book a reservation if possible.

Tin Fish

170 6th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

Tin Fish sits only a small jaunt from the Convention Center ferry stop. This walk-up, order-style restaurant makes divvying up the bill a cinch. Not to mention their fish lineup can’t be beat in downtown. Choose your type of fish, style of cooking, and favorite seasoning. Pair it with waffle fries, and you’ll be in heaven.

We recommend going mid-day to beat the crowds. If for some reason they don’t have enough dining open, their food is easy to grab and go. In fact, no seating offers the perfect excuse to go meander around Seaport Village and dine in the grass next to the bay. You’ll enjoy stunning views of yachts sitting in the harbor.

Buca di Beppo

705 6th Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101

We have two words for you: family style. Be prepared for large dishes designed to share as Buca di Beppo follows the Italian tradition of collaborative eating and merriment at the table. Enjoy all the classic dishes done to perfection. From spicy chicken rigatoni to eggplant parmesan to pizzas to lasagna and more, you’ll be sure to enjoy your feast.

This may also be just the ticket if you are looking to feed big appetites that have been burning calories like crazy for a week.

If you want to bring your entire crew with you, check out their banquet option. They request groups over 20 to call ahead and book a reservation.

Garage Kitchen and Bar

655 4th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

A new addition to the Gaslamp District, Garage Kitchen and Bar offers a unique spin on California Fresh Cuisine. They celebrate a happy hour nightly with 50% off all appetizers as well as nightly specials. You can enjoy a variety of dishes from burgers to short rib steak melt to halibut and more.

Is your mouth watering yet? It should be! This sounds delectable.

They accept reservations for groups over 10. For particularly large groups, they have an incredible private event space that fits up to 67 adults upstairs, 108 downstairs, and a combined 175 if you book out the space.

Getting Downtown

Downtown San Diego is just a hop, skip, and a jump away with the Coronado Ferry. This enjoyable 15-minute ride not only gives you sweeping views of the San Diego Skyline and Coronado Bridge, it also gives you two different drop-off locations in San Diego. You can choose either the Convention Center or Broadway Pier. Both give you incredible access to many of San Diego’s favorite attractions and dining venues.
